PC shows black screen and fails to boot, but the GEEKOM logo appears on startup.
Seeing the GEEKOM logo during boot indicates the system can output video in the early boot phase. However, it cannot yet confirm whether the black screen is caused by the OS, drivers or hardware issues. Please troubleshoot following these steps.
- Try entering the BIOS first Connect a wired USB keyboard. After pressing the power button, repeatedly tap the Del/Delete key immediately to attempt BIOS entry.
- If you can enter BIOS and the display remains normal: Proceed to troubleshoot OS boot and driver issues, though hardware faults such as hard drive failure cannot be fully ruled out. Do not modify BIOS settings at this stage.
- If BIOS entry fails: Try plugging the keyboard into another USB port and disconnect unnecessary external devices, then retry. If entry is still not possible, the unit has a hardware-level fault and is eligible for unit replacement.
- If BIOS is accessible but black screen occurs when loading Windows, try Safe Mode Safe Mode loads only basic drivers, helping determine if the black screen relates to the graphics driver or other software.
If the system consistently fails to boot normally:
- When the GEEKOM or Windows logo appears and the OS starts loading, hold down the power button until the computer shuts down.
- Power on again and repeat the above action.
- On the third boot, wait for the system to launch the Automatic Repair screen, then select Advanced options.
This interrupts the boot sequence to access the Windows Recovery Environment. Once inside the recovery screen, navigate as follows:
- Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart → Press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
- If prompted for the BitLocker recovery key, you must provide the corresponding key to continue. Refer to Microsoft’s Safe Mode documentation.
- Proceed based on Safe Mode results If you successfully reach the Safe Mode desktop, back up critical files first, then address the graphics driver: Right-click the Start menu and open Device Manager. Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics card and select Properties. If Roll Back Driver is available on the Driver tab, try rolling back first. If unavailable, uninstall the graphics device, reboot, then install the official driver for this model.
If Safe Mode cannot be accessed, or the black screen persists after driver troubleshooting, try Startup Repair within the recovery environment. Reinstalling the OS should be a later fallback option, and all important data must be backed up before performing this operation.
