Operation Steps
- Back up all important data on the system partition of the external drive before installation. The Windows installer will erase all data on the target drive.
- Create a Windows installation USB drive. Please refer to our guide: https://service.geekompc.com/faq/how-to-install-windows-system/
- Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS to avoid errors when the device attempts to load files from external hard drives or USB drives. Configuration steps are shown below.
Install the operating system onto the external hard drive
Note: Remove the internal hard drive pre-installed in the mini PC to prevent accidental installation to the wrong storage device.
Plug in both the Windows installation USB and the external hard drive. Repeatedly press F7 during startup and select to boot from the installation USB. The installer will detect the connected external hard drive automatically.
Please note that the initial installation attempt will normally fail. You need to switch the installation type to Disk to complete the setup. This behavior is expected.
After the failure prompt appears, change the installation disk type to "Disk", manually select formatting, and restart installation:
- Check Format Disk only
- Apply settings. The device will erase all data on the target drive
- Uncheck Format Disk only, and check OneKey Recovery in the installer
- Apply settings, and the system installation will begin
Wait for the installer to finish loading. The device will reboot automatically and start booting the OS from the external hard drive. Once the language selection screen (OOBE screen) appears, installation is complete.
You may power off the unit, disconnect power, reinstall the other data hard drive onto the motherboard, then reattach the bottom cover.
