System fails to boot when two memory modules work simultaneously – GEEKOM Help Center

Q：When either memory stick is inserted solely into the second memory slot, the computer boots successfully in both cases. When only the first memory slot is used, the computer boots normally with either memory stick. The computer cannot boot when both memory slots are occupied. The two memory modules have identical specifications.

A：

The system works perfectly with a single memory stick but malfunctions with two modules installed. This basically rules out complete failure of either memory stick or permanent damage to one memory slot on the motherboard.

The issue is most likely related to memory compatibility. Even memory modules of the same model may be incompatible due to different production batches. Under such circumstances, you will need to replace memory of another model or brand.

There are also less probable causes. Please perform the following troubleshooting steps first:

Poor contact, oxidation or dust buildup in memory slots
Power off the device and disconnect the power cable.
Gently wipe the gold contacts of the memory module with a pencil eraser (clean both sides thoroughly).
Remove dust inside both memory slots using compressed air or a soft brush (pay extra attention to the retaining clips at both ends).
When reinstalling, press the memory stick firmly all the way down until you hear two "click" sounds confirming both side clips lock into place.
After installing two memory modules, swap their positions in the slots, then power on and check if display output works.

Note: The computer runs Power-On Self-Test (POST) on startup. POST takes longer for dual-memory configuration than single-memory setup. Please wait for an extended period after powering on and observe whether the display lights up. The boot time will return to normal if you do not remove or reinstall memory afterward.

If another computer is available, test these memory sticks on that machine. If they operate normally there, the fault lies with the original computer itself.
