Article ID Code: GK-FAQ-03
This article answers common questions about running operating systems other than Windows on GEEKOM Mini PCs.
| Operating system | Supported? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 Pro | ✅ Official | Pre-installed and activated on all current models |
| Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, etc.) | ⚠️ Community supported | Works on most models, some drivers require manual installation |
| macOS | ❌ Not supported | Not compatible — see below |
| Chrome OS Flex | ⚠️ Not officially supported | May work on some models, not tested or supported by GEEKOM |
| Android | ❌ Not supported | Not compatible with x86 Mini PC hardware |
macOS
GEEKOM Mini PCs cannot run macOS. macOS is designed exclusively for Apple hardware and is not licensed to run on non-Apple devices. While "Hackintosh" projects exist that attempt to install macOS on non-Apple hardware, this:
- Violates Apple's End User License Agreement (EULA)
- Is not supported or assisted by GEEKOM
- Requires significant technical expertise and produces an unstable system
- Will not receive macOS updates reliably
If macOS is a requirement, an Apple Mac Mini or MacBook is the appropriate choice. GEEKOM Mini PCs are designed for Windows and Linux use.
Chrome OS Flex
Chrome OS Flex is Google's free version of Chrome OS designed to run on non-Chromebook hardware. It may install and run on some GEEKOM models, but:
- GEEKOM does not test or support Chrome OS Flex
- Hardware compatibility (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, display output) is not guaranteed
- For support with Chrome OS Flex, refer to Google's Chrome OS Flex support
If you want a lightweight, browser-based computing experience on GEEKOM hardware, Linux with a lightweight desktop environment (such as Xfce or LXDE) is a more reliable alternative.
Android
Standard Android is designed for ARM processors and cannot run on x86 Mini PC hardware. GEEKOM Mini PCs use Intel and AMD x86 processors, which are not compatible with standard Android.
Alternatives that provide Android-like functionality on x86 hardware include:
- Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) — available on Windows 11, allows running Android apps directly in Windows
- BlueStacks / LDPlayer — Android emulators that run on Windows, suitable for mobile gaming
Linux
Linux is the only alternative operating system that works reliably on GEEKOM Mini PCs. For installation instructions and driver setup, see:
