When logging in, it prompts that the login option has been disabled due to multiple failed login attempts. I have waited for 3 hours but still cannot log in.
1. First, Stop Trying Repeatedly
Every failed attempt can reset the lockout timer and extend your wait. This may be why you're still locked out after 3 hours.
2. Check for an Alternative Sign-In Method
Look at your login screen for other options:
Password (instead of PIN)
Other user accounts on the device
If a password option is available and you know it, use that to log in immediately. Once logged in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options to reset your PIN for next time.
3. Keep Your Device Powered On and Connected
Leave your laptop or computer turned on and connected to the internet during the waiting period. The system needs to remain active to properly reset the security counter.
4. After Waiting (Full 24 Hours Recommended)
If you still cannot log in after waiting 24 hours without attempting any sign-ins:
For a Microsoft Account (online account): Visit https://account.live.com/password/reset to go through the official account recovery process
For a Local Account (offline account): You may need to wait up to 24 hours, or consider using recovery media or reset options
