This issue often occurs after Windows system automatic updates or BIOS/TPM firmware updates, where users cannot log into the system even after entering the correct PIN code. You can follow the steps below to recover.
Step 1: Quick Fix
Applicable Scenario: You can see the "Sign-in options" button and remember your Microsoft account password
- On the login screen, click "Sign-in options" and select the "Password" icon
- Enter the Microsoft account password linked to this account to complete the login

After logging in, press
Win+Ito open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options - In the "PIN" section, click "Remove" and confirm the action
- Click "Add" and follow the wizard to set up a new PIN
- Restart the computer to verify if the PIN works properly
Step 2: Safe Mode Repair
Applicable Scenario: Password login fails, or the PIN reset button is grayed out or unresponsive
- Enter Safe Mode:
- Force shutdown 3 times (immediately press and hold the power button to cut power after startup); the fourth startup will automatically enter Safe Mode
- Select in order: Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart

After restart, press F4 to enter Safe Mode
- Log in using the account password in Safe Mode (PIN is disabled by default in Safe Mode)
- After logging in, press
Win+Ito open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options, then remove and re-add the PIN - Restart the computer to verify if the PIN works properly

If it still fails, check the status of key services:
- Press
Win+R, typeservices.msc, and press Enter - Ensure the following services are "Running" with startup type set to "Automatic":
- Windows Biometric Service
- Credential Manager
- NgcSvc (Next Generation Credentials)
- If any service is not running, right-click and select "Start"; if starting fails, try "Restart"
- Press
- Restart the computer and verify normal login
Step 3: System Repair
- Enter Safe Mode → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Repair

Step 4: Reset This PC (Keep Files)
Enter the system, then open Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
