Here are common troubleshooting steps for network connection failure after system update. Follow them in order.
Step 1: Basic Quick Troubleshooting
- Restart the mini PC and router/modem
- Check physical connections: For wired network, unplug and replug the network cable, confirm that the port indicator light is blinking normally; for wireless network, forget the WiFi network and reconnect.
- Switch network for testing: Connect to a mobile hotspot to determine if the issue is with the router or the computer itself. If you can access the internet normally via the mobile hotspot, it indicates a router issue.
Step 2: Run Windows Network Troubleshooter
- Right-click the network icon on the taskbar → select "Troubleshoot problems"
- The system will automatically detect and fix common issues (such as IP address conflicts, DHCP service errors, DNS configuration errors)
- Record any error messages provided by the troubleshooter for further diagnosis
Step 3: Reset Network Adapter
- Press
Win+R, typencpa.cpl, and press Enter to open the Network Connections window - Right-click the currently used network adapter ("Ethernet" or "WLAN") → select "Disable"
- Wait 10 seconds, then right-click again → select "Enable"
Step 4: Roll Back Network Driver (Most Effective Solution)
Windows Update may have automatically installed an incompatible generic network driver, which is the main cause of the problem.
- Press
Win+X→ select "Device Manager" - Expand the "Network adapters" category
- Right-click the problematic network device (e.g., Realtek RTL8168H, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201) → select "Properties"
- Go to the "Driver" tab → click "Roll Back Driver"
- Select a reason for rollback (such as "The previous driver version worked fine") → click "Yes"
- After rollback completes, restart the computer and test if the network is restored
Step 5: Reinstall Official Network Driver
Using another device with internet access, visit the GEEKOM official support page https://service.geekompc.com/ to download the network driver corresponding to your Windows version.
Step 6: Uninstall Problematic Windows Update
- Press
Win+Ito open Settings → select "Windows Update" → click "Update history" - Scroll down and click "Uninstall updates"
- Find the most recently installed updates (sorted by installation date)
- Right-click the update → select "Uninstall"
- Follow the prompts to complete the uninstall and restart the computer
Step 7: System Restore (Keep Personal Files)
- Press
Win+R, typerstrui.exe, and press Enter to open System Restore - Click "Next", select a system restore point created before the update
- Follow the prompts to complete system restore; the computer will restart automatically
Step 8: Final Solution
If all the above steps fail, it is recommended to back up important data and perform a system reinstallation.
