PC keeps freezing and turning off.

Let’s troubleshoot step by step, from most to least likely.

1. Check for Overheating (Most Common)
Thermal shutdowns happen quickly if airflow is blocked or the fan fails.

Monitor temps: Download HWMonitor or Core Temp. Run it and watch the CPU temperature. Idle should be ~40–55°C; under load, shutdown usually occurs around 90–100°C.

Feel the case: When it freezes/shuts down, is the bottom or back extremely hot?

Check fan: Place your hand near the rear vent. Can you feel warm air moving? If no airflow, the fan may be dead or clogged with dust.

Fix: Use compressed air to clean vents. Ensure the mini PC has 2–3 inches of clear space on all sides. Do not place it in a closed cabinet or on carpet.

2. Rule Out Power Supply Issues
The pc uses an external power brick. If the brick is failing or the connection is loose, the PC will randomly shut off without warning.

Check the connection: Ensure the barrel plug is fully seated into the mini PC (these can loosen over time).

Try another outlet – preferably directly into a wall, not a power strip.

Reseat the power brick’s AC cord (both ends).

If possible, test with a higher-wattage GaN charger (Geekom often supports USB-C PD, but check your manual first – the pc might require 19V barrel jack only).

3. Update BIOS & Chipset Drivers
Geekom is known for shipping units with early, buggy BIOS versions that cause instability.

Go to Geekom’s support page for the pc.

Download and install the latest BIOS (follow their instructions carefully – do not interrupt the update).

Also download the AMD Chipset Drivers (not just GPU drivers).

4. Test RAM (Common with these mini PCs)
Faulty RAM causes freezing, blue screens, or sudden power-offs.

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic: Type “Windows Memory Diagnostic” in Start, select “Restart now and check for problems”.

Or use MemTest86 on a USB drive (more thorough).

If you’re comfortable: Open the bottom panel, reseat the SODIMM modules (take them out, clean contacts with eraser, reinsert firmly).

Try running with one stick at a time if you have two.

5. Disable Fast Startup & Sleep States
Modern standby (S0ix) sometimes doesn’t play well with AMD mini PCs.

Disable Fast Startup: Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Uncheck “Turn on fast startup”.

Change power plan to High Performance.

Disable USB selective suspend in the same power options.
