Secure Boot is enabled by default on the A9 Max. You can think of it as a gatekeeper that only permits operating systems with official Microsoft signatures to boot.
Ubuntu has purchased Microsoft’s signature, so it is allowed to boot.
Kubuntu and Manjaro (Arch-based) do not come with this signature by default. The system blocks them from booting.
Boot Mode (UEFI vs Legacy BIOS)
Tools create Ubuntu installation media in UEFI mode by default. However, the Kubuntu USB may have been created in Legacy mode accidentally. Since the BIOS only supports UEFI, it cannot detect the Kubuntu USB drive.
Solution: Enter the BIOS and disable Secure Boot (set Secure Boot to Disabled, then press F4 to save changes). Once disabled, all Linux Live USBs will be recognized normally.
