This article will help you quickly troubleshoot common audio issues encountered while using the GEEKOM Mini PC, including no sound, incorrect device recognition, electrical noise, and system compatibility problems.
No Sound When Playing Audio
Issue Description
The device produces no sound when playing audio, and it is not muted.
Cause Analysis
The GEEKOM Mini PC itself does not have built-in speakers and usually requires external devices (speakers, monitor speakers, or headphones) to output sound. Therefore, the problem is mostly related to software settings or external devices.
Possible Causes and Solutions
1. Loose Connection or Port Issues
- Reconnect the audio cable to ensure a secure connection
- Replace the audio cable or test with another port
- If using Bluetooth devices:
-
Remove the original device and pair it again (Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Remove Device > Add Device)
-
2. System Volume or Default Output Device Incorrect
Windows may automatically switch audio output devices, for example, failing to switch back to speakers after plugging in headphones.
Troubleshooting steps:
- Right-click the volume icon on the taskbar → “Sound settings”
-
Select the correct device under “Output device” (such as external speakers or headphones)
-
Check if any applications are muted in the “Volume mixer” or if the overall volume is turned down
3. Audio Driver or System Service Abnormality
Recommended action:
Visit the GEEKOM support website Geekom Support, find your model, and download the audio driver. Installation tutorial: How to install Driver? – Geekom. Restart the system after updating.
Incorrect Audio Port Recognition
Issue Description
The system recognizes headphones/speakers as microphone input or misidentifies the port type, causing malfunction.
Solution 1: Modify via Realtek Console
No need to reinstall the system or drivers; you can adjust it through the audio control software:
Steps:
- Type Realtek Audio Console in the Windows search bar
- Open the app and go to Device advanced settings
- Locate the currently plugged-in audio port
-
Manually specify the device type, such as:
- Headphone
- Speaker Out
- Microphone
- Line In
Solution 2: Re-detect Device
If recognition is still incorrect, try resetting the device:
Steps:
- Open “Device Manager”
- Expand “Sound, video and game controllers”
- Find:
- Realtek Audio (-->USB Audio Device)
- Right-click → Uninstall device
-
Restart the computer, and the system will automatically re-detect
Static Noise When Playing Audio
Issue Description
When plugging in headphones, a buzzing electrical interference noise is heard. This is usually related to poor port contact or power interference.
Solution
1. Clean Dust from Headphone Jack and Plug
Use compressed air (or blow hard with your mouth) to clean the inside of the 3.5mm jack (dust, oxidation, and fibers are the most common issues).
2. Change the Power Adapter or Power Strip
If the external power supply voltage is unstable, it can cause ground loop noise in the power adapter. It is recommended to use a grounded (three-prong) outlet for power supply;
3. Test with Different Audio Devices
Use another wired headphone or switch to Bluetooth headphones to test if the noise still exists. If the noise disappears, the headphone plug may be faulty. If it persists, it might be a hardware issue with the device.
System Compatibility Issues
Some devices may have audio abnormalities under Linux systems. We are unable to provide extensive technical support for Linux compatibility issues, as our primary adaptation focus is on Windows systems.
